Medical device automation
Automatic construction is not just for your car anymore. With
significant debate through out the years, Medical Device Automation has
been taking a greater hold in the manufacturing industry.
With the precision and accuracy that has become known in so many other
industries, machines are being designed to put the medical devices,
which are so desperately needed by many, together. This course of
action has had an impact on the industry as a whole, however the
medical device automation has taken its time getting a complete
foothold in the industry, particularly with the medical device
companies who provide the highest quality products.
You may wonder why it took so long for the medical device industry to
seek complete automation, and automation improvements. The concerns in
the manufacturing side have been for patients who received the devices.
Many of those who put together the products often do so with great care
and quality assurance expectations. There has often been great debate
about the ability of the mechanical employee to assure as beneficial
quality as the human employee. Machines have been a significant aid in
the industry for many years, just recently however have they been
converted into the primary tool for putting the devices
together.

In the past automation was not as popular as many
companies felt that they had to focus on keeping man power around to
perform the maintenance and repairs on the automation
machinery. Many times the cost of getting something automated
was out of the question and it was much cheaper to keep the man power
to do the work.
Today it is more cost effective to go through automation and in some
cases it is actually more accurate then having something done by man
power. For example car companies used to have people put in
the pistons in cars and trucks but today this job is being done by
machines as the rate of error is 0.00001% where as when it was being
installed by people the rate of error was around 1-1.5%. Some
of the companies to jump on the band wagon for automation were oil
refining, metal working and all types of manufactures that were
handling industrial chemicals. |

An Advisory Group known as ARC, which is a group of analysts has
received credit for naming and popularizing the programmable automation
controller's acronym - PAC. 2001 was the year when it was first coined
and also to assist users who control hardware to better describe their
needs; and also to give leading hardware vendors the term to
communicate more clearly what their products are
worth.
In general, programmable logic controllers and programmable automation
controllers have the same thing in common. Both of these controllers
are used to process control, perform automation, data acquisition
features such as analog and digital control, PID, motion control
serial-string handling and also machine vision. A programmable
automation controller operates in reverse to achieve these functions,
where the programmable logic controller runs the other way.
Unlike programmable logic controllers, programmable automation
controllers offer modular, open architectures and the reason for this
is that most of the applications in the industries are customized. The
hardware that is used for these controllers need to allow the engineers
to choose and to pick components that are in the system's architecture
without the thought of whether the components are compatible.
